About The CarMash Grid

Everything you need to know about how our community vehicle indexing and rankings work.

What is The CarMash?

The CarMash is a community-driven data platform designed to rank and compare vehicles based on public sentiment. By evaluating two cars side-by-side in real-time matchups, our community creates a definitive, crowd-sourced index of the most popular vehicles on the road.

How does the vehicle ranking system work?

We utilize an automated Elo rating system—similar to global competitive sports indices. Every vehicle starts with a baseline rating. When a user chooses one vehicle over another in a head-to-head matchup, points are distributed based on the probability of the outcome. Defeating a highly-ranked rival yields a massive boost, keeping our global leaderboard completely dynamic.

Can I submit my own vehicle to the grid?

Absolutely. We encourage car enthusiasts to head over to our Upload Portal to submit their daily drivers, project builds, or dream cars. Once submitted, our system optimizes the data, and upon passing our community moderation check, your vehicle is queued into the active arena to start climbing the divisions.

What are the different competitive divisions?

Think of divisions like football leagues or motorsport tiers. Cars are grouped together based on their active score. At the end of every week, the highest-rated cars get promoted to the next division up, while cars at the bottom drop down a tier. This keeps the battles fair, matching your daily driver against similar competition while the elite builds battle it out at the top.
